The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 25 - Acting And Evans

Making plans to escape from the arena was easier said than done, but at the moment David was beginning to have an idea about how to go about it. The only thing that he had found so annoying, was the fact that he has not been able to be in contact with his weapons, his hover bike and tortoises. David had a problem with letting go of things that belonged to him, which him made come off as stingy most of the time, or greedy.

But regardless David knew how much help his weapons and his metal eating tortoises would be to him in his bid to escape from this place. But he had no idea where they were, so he had to work with what was available to him. And that was nothing.

David let out a sigh frustration as he sat up from his bed. It was either they were placed in a different cell, or the cell they were placed in seemed to have grown. There were two beds placed in opposite ends of the cell, a raised curtain dividing what David was sure could only be a bathroom from the rest of the cell. There seemed to be better lighting in the cell as a few lamps were hanging off the cell wall like fire flies on a Monday night. David was not sure what brought about a change in scenery, but he was grateful for it.

David heard the sound of someone approaching their cell, and shifted his eyes to the cage and screen of supernatural darkness that kept them isolated from the rest of the world. Telepathic powers or not, David would have loved to have been able to do magic.

Well it was not as if he could not do magic. On Pangea magic or the ability to manipulate Mana was passed down through families. His paternal grandfather whose Magic staff was among the supplies lying in the trunk of his Hover bike had been a wizard, and his elder sister rose was a green mage.

With Magic you would have access to a list of special skills, but also a specialization. It was what made Mana users so feared and hated in Pangea, because of how unpredictable their abilities were.

Sorcerers were natural born spell caster, they had the ability to manipulate the arcane into any element they wished and were the most versatile and flexible class among the Mana users. Mages were a complicated bunch as they could only cast spells from a chosen element. However the power from those spells would be enough to destroy even a sorcerer with mastery over four elements. Mages pursue the power of their elements to its very essence, taking the power, effects and versatility of the element to levels unknown.

Wizards and witches were what really spooked people the most. This brand of Mana users had the ability to alter reality in many forms, and bring about the existence of things or situations not meant to be. When you bring a wizard or a witch into an equation, you will then have to worry about curses, black magic, gateway to hell, mind control, poison, and many serious juju that would definitely make your skin crawl in fright. They can play with the souls of a person and stuff it back into a body in time for dinner. And the worst part of it was that Wizards and witches could not cast spells on their own, they needed help from a conduit, something to give their spells shape and form. They needed wands or magic staffs.

There were a variety of Mana users and each with their different classes that David could not be bothered to think about right now. But the bottom line was that sorcerers were masters of the arcane, mages the elements, and the wizards and witches were masters of the conjuring. Things would have been easier for David if he was a Mana user, those guys even with the hindrance of an Ionite array could always find a way to use their abilities. It made David wonder how it was possible that Ability users were above magic users. How that was possible would forever be a mystery to him.

Anyway to keep things on track, David had a little magic in him from his wizard grandfather, the gene skipped a generation and jumped their father to settle on his children, except for Mark though. As if he could not be any more different from the rest of them.

David chose to ignore that part of him, he was a man of science not magic. But if he had ever thought he would find himself in a situation where he would have needed magic to escape, he would have learnt to cast something other than a light spell. But this were all just technicalities that had no place in his mind right now. It was to late for what ifs, and not to mention his head was still pounding, so he would rather keep it uncluttered from stray thoughts that had no help to offer in his current predicament.

The cell door slid to the side as the barrier of darkness shook a bit, before letting someone else walk in. It was the handsome beautiful man, and behind him were two guards holding a cage the size of a crib. The cage was covered with a velvet clothe, like the one magicians used in their tricks back on earth. David winced at the ringing in his ear, thinking about a different planet would not be helpful at the moment.

"Well how are my champions, you both seem to be in good shape."

This time when he spoke there was no trace of the hostilities in his voice the last time they saw each other. Such a rapid change of character made David raise his eyebrows so high they almost disappeared into his hair line. He wondered if something had changed in the time he had been unconscious. But it was Lilith that answered, it seems she was saying more and more theses days, a far cry from the cold beauty he met on that roof almost a week? Or was it two weeks ago. David was not sure, time was very screwed up for him right now.

"We're not your champions, we're your prisoners. Let's call it what it is."

The beautiful dude chuckled in amus.e.m.e.nt as he wagged his fingers at Lilith as if he was admonishing a little child.

"Oh come on Lilly, I thought we were friends now, and that we have come to an agreement. Why else would I have gotten you this sweet room, and kept you and your boyfriend together. Hmmmm. It was all done out of utmost sincerity on my part. Besides if you want I can take you away from this dump, you wouldn't have to be a fighter, you could rule over this empire of mine as my queen, right by my side. We can even do something about that arm of yours."

Okay, now David was sure he had missed a whole lot of drama and info in the hours he had been out of commission. Since when were this two buddies, and what arrangements did they make. And why was this guy calling Lilith, Lilly. And for all that is holy, what the hell is his name!?

"Well Evans your offer is very tempting, of course the conditions remain, and I am quoting you on this, that I 'have to lie on my back while you rode me like a bitch in heat'."

"Well naturally of course. You would look even more beautiful if you were placed on my bed, you would be a true piece of art Lilly, my art."

David was sure if his jaw went any lower, it would have become unhinged from his jaw. What the hell was going on here, were this two flirting with each other, what the hell happened to the kiss and connection he and Lilith shared not more than an hour ago. This is weird. And his name is Evans, what sort of a villains name is Evans.

"Well sorry, But I love my boyfriend very much, and we're never going leave each other. Right David?"

David felt like he had a lump stuck in his throat, scratch that, there was a lump stuck in his throat. He was confused, but he was still conversant enough to know that Lilith might have just laid the ground work for the biggest lie in his life. And with the way she was looking at him, his survival and good night sleep depended on how well he could sell this lie.

"Yes baby you're right. Nothing's coming between the two of us, but what arrangements did you make with him. Did you…..did you cheat on me while I was out."

David felt that they needed to give him an Oscar for such an outstanding performance. Of course there was no such thing as the Oscars on Pangea, so he had to suffer a sharp lancing pain for such a thought. But David was able to keep a straight face, he was able to sell the part of an insecure boyfriend so perfectly he had everyone here fooled even himself. Except of course Lilith, she didn't look fooled only annoyed. David shrunk back a little from her gaze.

"Hahahaha, don't worry David, I have not taken your woman away from you....yet. But everything will happen in due time. But let me introduce myself, my name is Evans Moses."

Forget it, if that was not a villains name, then all the years of reading comic books had all been a waste. The bastard looked so smug and arrogant as he stood there basking in the aura of his own handsomeness. "abeg comot for road jor, Wetin you dey feel like(1)."

David was so irritated by Evans he risked having his headache act up by using a language indigenous to west African men whenever they were angry or frustrated....pidgin English. It was not David's first time using the street language ever since he got to Pangea, but old habits die hard and the pain only lasted for a moment.

"P.l.e.a.s.u.r.e meeting you Evans, now what arrangements do you have with Lilith.....hmm excuse me, Lilly."

David looked completely natural, as if he had not almost given her real name to the enemy, and messed up their entire charade. It was a close call, and the glare she was sending his way carried three words in full capacity. "Don't mess up."

"Well David our arrangements is quite simple really, you fight and kill for me, and I'll give you whatever you want to make your stay here comfortable. As you can see I made your cell a little bigger, you have a softer bed, and you're not chained up like an animal. Aren't I nice?"

David looked at him with an expressionless look on his face as he commented as sarcastically as possible.

"Yes indeed, so nice. I can feel kindness oozing from your pores. O.M.G what a saint."

There was a palpable silence in the cell as Evans face was caught between a glare and a smile. He was struggling to keep up his act, as it was quite obvious David got under his skin. The only thing David found really annoying however was the fact that, even when he was frowning...and err smiling? He still looked like he was pooped from the a.s.s of a celestial being. But to deal with the ensuing silence, Lilith decided to speak up.

"So what's in the cage?"

"well I'm glad you asked my soon to be queen. You're quite certainly sharp."

"And you're quite certainly delusional"

David retorted in annoyance. He hated this guy, David had discovered a new part of himself that he didn't like on the whims of this man in front of him. They were slaves, and he was forced to kill for survival, but David was not feeling the hate or anger at the moment. It was jealousy, white hot jealousy.

Evans had a way with words, an aura and a flare he used in speaking. It made every word he spoke seem like honeyed gold, and Lilith looked like she was eating up every piece of his bullshit. David was not really sure the flirty expression on Lilith's face was completely acting, and if it was, then she deserved that Oscar a whole lot more than he did.

"Oh David are you jealous, do you feel threatened by my presence. Well don't worry yourself, it is only natural you feel this way in the presence of a superior man. But back to the matter at hand, the thing in the cage is actually a gift and an incentive for David to work harder in his next match. Which will be commencing in five days so I suggest you get ready."

Then Evans flipped his hands, and the guard's who carried the cage in, raised the velvet covering.

"Veni!!"

"kuuroooarrr!!"

To be honest David was not sure if this was Veni, or Vidi, or Vici. All three tortoises looked the same, and it was hard for David to differentiate between them most of the time. But this guy who David has decided to call Veni(since he was the only one here anyway. Its less confusing that way.) Had grown to the size of a full grown golden retriever.

"What have you been feeding him?"

David asked in shock, as he went down on his knees and reached his hand into the cage. The ridges and bumps above Veni's head had actually started growing into horns, and its shell was still blue, but more compact and smaller. The patterns on it were disappearing, making it look smooth and metallic. The tortoise let our a low growl of p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e as David rubbed his hand over its head.

"First of all that is a she, and we have not been feeding her anything. She has been eating through everything put in front of her, especially metal. I wanted to keep her and her brothers as a pet, but her upkeep, their upkeep is to much of an expense, and they are hostile to everyone but you it seems. So I brought her back to her daddy. You do well in the next match, and the matches after that, and I will return everything I have taken from you. Including the guns, and that epic grade magic staff that Is bound to a bloodline."

David was not to happy about fighting again, but there was not much he could say about it either. He would much rather leave, but he had an attachment to everything Evans took from him. Besides he doubted he could leave when he wanted. It was just killing a few more people, how hard could it be.
