The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 51 - David Vs The Evil Dead (VIII): Evolution

After David and Vidi left the pyramid, they suddenly found themselves transported to the tunnel that was littered with the decapitated bodies of zombies. The path to that cavern, was now nothing but one solid slab of earth. It was blocked off, which meant that there was no going back there for them both. David was grateful for that though. This whole fight has been really stressful for him, and he also needed to find a place to put his head down. After all he was about to undergo another evolution.

Vidi unhesitatingly stepped over the corpses of.....zombies? As he made his way back to intersection of tunnels.

When they got back there, Lilith and Minerva were already there waiting for them. Minerva had a few scratches on her body, but Lilith looked like she had just come out of a shower.

After and hour of berating, surprisingly from Lilith, David had to describe his entire experience with his chosen tunnel as much as he could. It turns out, that the girls also faced the same thing too. Apart from different undead, and a cavern of spears, the guardians they fought were actually quite different from the other.

Minerva had to deal with some sort of Zombie princess, and Lilith had to fight what she swore was a living orc. David was doubtful though, as far as Pangea was concerned, just like dungeons, and elves, orcs were extinct. The final difference with their stories was that the metal they both obtained did not melt into their palms as it did for David. David could only assume that this trial, was supposed to be taken by one person, and the person had to go through each tunnel one by one.

When they showed David their own metals, a peculiar pulse was released, and David felt his bones shake and rattle from within him. Then the metals flew into the air, and jumped straight into his hand, melding and joining the tattoo of the mechanical dragon on the back of his hand. The dragon tattoo became more detailed, vivid and life like, it was almost as if it could jump out of the back of his hand if it wished.

"Okay what the hell was that?" Minerva asked with a scrunched up face.

David raised his shoulders up as if to say he had no idea. And that was when a massive migraine hit him, and he was forced to shout out. He felt his muscles pull, then stretch, compacting and vibrating while his entire body began to spasm.

The pain was really sharp and encompassing, it was unlike the previous times he had to evolve. This time it was as if some kind of major change was happening within his body, and the pain was the warning it gave. Nothing was spared as the agony really went deep, cutting, hitting, freezing and burning him to the very depths of his cells themselves.

"What's Happening to him?" Minerva asked in panic.

Lilith gave a nonchalant answer as if she could not be bothered by what was happening. But the worried look in her eyes betrayed her true emotions to show how worried she was for him.

"He's evolving."

"But I thought you said he evolved about three weeks ago, why is it happening so soon." Minerva asked shocked by what was happening.

"I don't know Minerva, but if what he had told me before is true, then this should be his fourth time evolving in two months." Lilith answered as she pushed David into a prone position.

"but that's impossible Lilith, even the most talented person only evolves once in a year!, and after that it takes longer and longer intervals for any sort of advancement much less evolution to take place. The rapid evolution aside, he should not be evolving this fast. What kind of body does he have?"

"Well I don't know, you can ask him when he wakes up."

"But Lilith, how is it possible that his body is able to remain in one piece after so many evolutions in such a short period of time. The regulator should not be that powerful as to keep his cells from breaking down or attacking themselves from the strain and constant change they have been put through. The regulator only transports the evolution energy to the part of his body that needs to be evolved, and it doesn't let evolution happen so rapidly. So What's going on?"

Lilith had an idea what was really happening though. But it was not something she could tell Minerva, after all this was her's and David's secret. The fact that he was not one person, but two could give a lot of people leverage over David. The last person who came from earth founded the modern era of Pangea, David was experiencing all this because he was extraordinary, an obscure enigma of universal magnitude.

So it came as no surprise to Lilith that he was evolving this fast. She had no idea why, but all she could attribute it to was the fact that David was special.

"Minerva I have no idea what's going on, but we need to secure the area and give him some space. There's nothing we can do for him now but to make sure he's comfortable and hope that when he's done evolving he comes out stronger, but fine."

Lilith being this considerate was rare, and if David heard her he would have really loved to tease her, but it is what it is. David felt paralyzed and blocked from the rest of his senses. He could not see, hear, smell, taste or feel. Even the pain had become nothing more than just a dull memory of agony. He couldn't even think or string together a coherent thought, everything just felt empty and dull and grey. And then eventually it became black.

When David opened his eyes, he was alone. Minerva and Lilith were no where to be found, along with Veni and Vidi. The only other living thing within his immediate vicinity was Vici, and even then the giant tortoise was asleep. David felt his body and realized that his previous injuries were all healed. But his left eye ached a lot and was pouring out tears even though he was not crying. He had to place his palm over it and apply pressure before he could deal with the pain.

He heard beeping sounds, and looked down at his wrist to see that his regulator was beeping. The Evolution was over, so the regulator would update David's current stats. To be honest he felt like he had to make it a point to check the damn thing regularly. The only time he ever paid attention to it was whenever he just finished evolving, or that one time when he tried to call his family.

NAME: DAVID JOHNSON IYE

AGE: NINETEEN

PHYSIQUE: LEVEL 2 (12.37)

AGILITY: LEVEL 2 (9.00)

MENTAL: LEVEL 3 (15.90)

PSY COLUMN: LEVEL 3

PSIONIC ABILITIES: TELEPATHY: LEVEL 5|TELEKINESIS: LEVEL 1| MOLECULAR MANIPULATION: LEVEL 2|??????????? EYE: LEVEL 1

ENERGY LEVEL STABLE

ESTIMATED TIME TILL NEXT ENERGY SURGE: 100:17:33:20

The next energy surge would be happening in the next four to five days, David really hoped it wouldn't happen so soon, but from the looks of it, he didn't have much of a choice. Looking at his stats, he couldn't help but smile a little. He had gotten stronger, way stronger than he was yesterday.

Or a few hours ago, he really had no idea how long he had spent Evolving. His telepathy had jumped from 3 to 5, his telekinesis has finally activated, so at least he would be able to move things with his mind now. Molecular restructure had changed to molecular manipulation, which was strange, because he didn't know if that ability had evolved of devolved.

But whatever it was, it was level 2. But the final and new ability was an enigma.

If the question marks were not enough, this fact that his eye was throbbing served as enough proof. He had gained a new ability, but it was not at all in the database of the regulator, which meant what ever this eye ability was, it was something entirely new, or the mutation and variant of another previously recorded eye ability.

The database that the regulator uses to name his abilities, was something that was compiled from the registered abilities of millions if not billions of ability users over the course of a few thousand years. For it not to be in database, meant it was something Pangea had never seen before, or had seen but never got to identify.

David did not know weather to feel smug or fearful at the massive and unknown change that was currently happening to his eye. He hoped to God that he did not go blind, because that would not be good for him, or anybody at all. David turned his eyes to his right, placed a meter from him was his battle blade. In an experimental manner, David called the battle blade to himself, using his mind to tell it to move or even float in the air.

It didn't work, the battle blade remained where it was, completely unresponsive to David's attempt at telekinesis. David bit his lip in confusion as he tried again, how was this telekinesis ability supposed to work again. He was trying as hard as he could, but no amount of screaming or talking with his mind could make that chunk of metal move one bit. Then he raised his hand an pulled back violently.

The battle blade flew straight at his face with such speed that David feared for his life. Then he moved his head sideways his figure looking like a blur with how fast he moved, the battle blade flew past his head, with David seeing it go past in slow motion when he focused on it. It was as if the whole world had gone still, and all that was left moving was the battle blade and himself.

The world sped up once again and the battle blade impacted his hover bike with a loud clang that woke Vici up from his sleep.

After the world became fast again, David felt a sharp pain in his left eye, before it suddenly calmed down. There was no pain or throbbing, and his eye was no longer shedding tears. David could see things with his left eye he could not with his right. Tiny details like the individual lines that crisscrossed over Vici's shelled back. He could see the pores on his skin, but when he tried to look harder, he suddenly felt woozy.

He closed his left eye, and was able to reorient himself. His left eye was the eye that turned blue after he was free from that lizards mind control. The infection had changed the biological make up of his eye, and now his evolution had banked on it, giving that eye, abilities that David was not ready for. He opened his eye and closed it a few more times before he realized that whatever ability his left eye had, there was no deactivating it. It was permanently activated, and the only way he could avoid using it, to prevent that eye of his from frying his brain, was to keep it closed.

How was this fair, he now had a very good ability, but he couldn't use it as he wished. Even worse, he had to keep his left eye closed or there would be consequences. He had no choice but to learn to use his right eye alone until his mind becomes strong enough to handle the strain of using his left.

"Damn!"
