The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 52 - One Of The Strong.

With nothing left to do about his eye, all David could do right now was explore the limits of his current abilities. He tried using his telekinesis once again, only for him to find out that, he's not able to move anything that's more than a meter away from him, or is as heavy as he was.

Telekinesis was severely limited as a long range ability, unless he got the ability to a higher level, David was only able to control objects half, or lesser than half his weight within a one meter circ.u.mference.

Of course in a melee battle, the telekinesis would show it's effects in variety of really OP ways. With this ability, fighting him up close was not something David would advice his opponent to do.

After a little experimentation with his ability, in which David established his area of influence with his telekinesis, and how heavy a weight his mind could carry, and also how long he could sustain the ability without tiring himself out.

He discovered that his mind couldn't lift anything more than 8 to 10 kilograms worth of weight. It was not much, but it was not little either.

Outside of his one meter sphere of influence, he looses control of whatever it was he was using his telekinesis to manipulate, however he could use his telekinesis to throw something, much like a gun and a bullet, all he had to do was aim properly.

But he also had a problem. Unlike the movies, David was unable to just stand still and use his telekinesis with just his mind alone. He needed a physical gesture to channel the ability, so he had to do things like wave his hands to direct the movement, or move his head to do the same. Apart from that, there was just nothing else David could do to get the telekinesis to work. Though he believed he would be able to circ.u.mnavigate this block by training. It took him all of one hour to learn how to use just his head to direct his telekinesis, of course his neck ended up aching as if he was smacked at the back of the head with a dumb bell.

David believed that in time, he would be able to move anything with just his thoughts alone, rather than his gestures. So until then using telekinesis in the middle of a battle would not be as smooth as he expects it to be. The ability can still be used, but not with enough versatility.

The next thing he tried to check was his telepathy, and frankly speaking, the results he obtained threw him off his feet...…literally. The moment David decided to activate his telepathy, his ears, or should his say his head was filled with noises. Screams of agony and torment from hundreds upon hundreds of lost souls.

He could see their memories, their pain, their love, and their hopes. He felt the anguish they all felt about being trapped in a mortal shell that wouldn't die, and would have to stand guard in this tunnel for as long as it took for an inheritor to be chosen.

There was no peace for anyone of them, each and every single day was torture for them, and they had to experience pieces and bits of their souls fade away into the void with each second they spent trapped in living corpses. As if that was not enough, they were also subjected to the physical torture of feeling and watching as their mortal prisons rotted away into ash and bone.

Their revulsion at the stench from within them, the anguish at the maggots and pus that enveloped them. David could hear it, and even worse he could feel it. Every emotion they could muster, he could feel it, smell it, taste it, and even see it. This was a whole new level of mind reading, and truth be told, it was terrifying.

David managed to deactivate his telepathy, gasping for breath from the sudden and intense emotions he had just been force to experience. He was bleeding from his ears and nose, and his head was pounding to the sound of his heart beat. Vici came close to David and placed his head under his kneeling form, attempting to lift him up.

"Are you okay? Please don't be hurt."

It was the voice of a child that could not be more than six or seven years old. And He knew it was Vici's voice, clear, crisp and comprehensible. David was no longer feeling intent or instinct or emotions. He could hear what this guy was thinking just as clear as if he was having a conversation with another human being.

"It's okay Vici I'm fine. I'm just a little woozy is all."

"Are you sure? There's a lot of blood you know."

David could not help but start laughing at the sheer innocence of this little guy. He was really just a kid, and he did not even question how it was that David could suddenly reply his answers, when he was doing nothing but thinking about it. 'I guess his size is not a true depiction of his age, he's still young. Very young'.

"There's nothing to worry about Vici, the blood will wash off, it's just a little cut."

"In your ears?" Vici asked with skepticism.

David felt his eye twitch. Vici was young, not stupid. That kind of half assed explanation would only raise flags in his young mind. David had to change the topic, and he had to do it fast. For some reason, the very idea of making this tortoise worry for him was very unsettling. He felt protective of the little guy.

"Have you eaten anything yet Vici."

"Mhmm big sister brought me lots of metal to eat up, there's still some left. Do you want to share some with me."

"Errr, don't worry about me Vici, Hehehe I'm full you know. If I eat any more metal I might get a tummy ache. So you just have fun."

"Oh! Well there's more for me then."

David marveled at his abilities. With this he doubted that there wasn't any secret he couldn't find if he wanted to. He could hear thoughts, and he could sense emotions in the very sense of the word. He could see it with his eyes, smell it with his nose, hear with his ears, taste it with his tongue, and feel it with his skin. This was weird, everything he could do with his telepathy, were actually different branch abilities of telepathy, variants if you will. But David has never heard of, or seen someone who has all of them in one package.

The only thing missing was the ability to project his own thoughts, but there was still room for growth. The maximum level any ability can grow to, is 10.and right now David was at five, a level that should not be possible with just 3rd level mental energy. Yet he had it, and he knew without a doubt that he would be able to unlock every telepathic ability possible as long as he could keep evolving. Or he was just being arrogant, who knew what the future held. All he could do was try his best to master what he now had.

Now David turned his attention to the molecular manipulation ability. This was something he had largely chose to ignore so far, but with this sudden change he was not sure he could anymore. The ability to manipulate, or in essence control molecules, also has different branches just like telepathy. Some abilities made the body harder, others could control the molecules to vibrate really fast to genetate fire, or bring it to a stop and make it freeze. Others just chose to move it around to make it seem they can control the wind.

The extreme ones could use the ability to change the shape, size, and gender of their body. Other's like Lilith could assimilate foreign materials into their body, completely changing their genetic makeup. It was an ability with a wide range for growth just like telepathy , previously David could use it to harden his body and increase his defense. Hopefully nothing had changed.

David's abilities were now like a second limb for him, all he needed to activate them was a thought, the same way he would want to move his feet or hands. That familiar heaviness came over his body, as he watched in fascination as every inch of himself became grey, like he was some sort of rock. He felt the same amount of heaviness as before, but he also knew that this defense of his was three times as strong as his previous. It was an amazing improvement, and so far nothing else seems to be out of place, so he tried sitting down, and in the process of sitting down, his right arm brushed over Vici's shell.

His hand immediately turned black, and David had to bite back a gasp of pain as his arm began to grow scales, and then a shelled armor all the way to his elbow. As soon as it got to his elbow, it stopped, leaving David horrified at the clawed reptilian hand that was now his. He clenched and unclenched his fist, while also screaming in his mind that a lot of things had changed. This was a very big change, colossal and monumental.

He now had the ability to absorb, and assimilate the molecular structure of anything...…well a tortoise, but who's says it won't work on just about anything. This goes beyond just absorbing molecules, what he just did was absorb D.N.A and rapidly assimilate and use it to augment his body. No wonder his psy column was now level 3. David was a mishmash of really dangerous abilities that all seem to be in harmony within his body, apart from the occasional headaches and identity crisis, David was dangerous enough to now be taken seriously by a lot of important people.

Of course there were still lots of people stronger than him. Lilith was stronger than him, he knew that for a fact. But now with his abilities, at least he could say he was leagues above an average ability user. Now the only thing stopping him from being a complete grand slam champion was learning how to use magic. Should he do so, David himself dreads to think how powerful he could become.

But then an alarming matter made itself known to David. He had a hand that was armored and scaled like a tortoise all the way to his elbow. What if?, like many of those unlucky people who had botched evolutions, this became permanent, and his arm never returns to normal. That would be bad, it would be very bad.

David quickly deactivated his molecular manipulation ability, and almost fell down on his face due to how exhausted he suddenly felt. Without a doubt the energy expedition for the ability was still colossal, in the end much like the rest of his abilities this was something that can only be used in dire moments, or when he wants to create an offset over his opponent.

Thankfully, with the ability deactivated, this assimilated shelled arm, began to loose it's l.u.s.ter as the shell and scales began to fall off. As soon as the fell off, another wave of dizziness washed over David and he had to sit down with a bang. This was to be expected, he had practically just created genetic material from the tiny amount of DNA he just absorbed. Without question the amount of energy required to create that armor was not something to laugh about.

If David had higher energy levels, he would have been able to grow that armor over his entire body. Even though he had no idea how to measure his energy levels, it was something he could feel. It was like how you knew how much energy to use to carry out a certain action, and after you're done, how tired you would feel from exerting yourself.

David felt thankful though, after today, he knew he would find it very hard to get as seriously Injured as he was a few days ago. He was not the strongest, but he was now one of the strong.
