The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 53 - Secrets Of The Dragon (I): Kenai Khan Chen Kato

"Is there something on my face?" David asked Minerva with an annoyed tone in his voice.

"No there's nothing." She answered back startled

"Then why have you been staring at me none stop for the past fifteen minutes. I don't think you suddenly just developed an interest in the shape and contours of my face. So what's up?"

"I'm sorry but...….are you...…are you reading my mind right now."

David gave a groan of frustration as he answered back.

"No I'm not reading your mind, why would I be doing that. It's an invasion of your privacy."

"but I thought that...….."

"Minerva! We've been through this a hundred times already. I'm not going to read your mind!"

This was not really her fault though. While magic is widely feared on Pangea, there was also a chronic paranoia about telepaths. The ability to read a person's mind and expose his deepest and darkest secrets was not something most people of Pangea appreciated. And on a world that was built on secrets, telepaths were one of the most sought after resources, and also one of the most feared. A telepath and the secrets they can uncover, have the potential to overturn or change the current system of government. They made good spies, the very best.

"You guys should prepare, those death knights won't kill themselves." Lilith Interrupted.

David turned to her for a bit, before facing the other way. He had learn that his evolution had lasted an entire week, and in that time both Minerva and Lilith had been able to clear the fourth tunnel of the draugrs within. The metal they got from the end of that tunnel had melted into his palm just like the rest, it apart from looking more life like, the dragon tattoo did not undergone any change at all.

Then Lilith spent the next two days beating the shit out of him. She said it was to try and be him accustomed to his new abilities, but David suspected she was angry at him. Only problem was he didn't know why. Practice alone was good and all, but it is only through practice with someone else, that you would learn the true extent of your abilities.

But in the end David only learnt one unshakable fact, Lilith was a combat monster. With his increased speed, strength and senses, he could keep up with her attacks, but just barely. Her defense was off the charts, and even with one arm she was still able to prevent him from landing a hit on her body. But the biggest knowledge came from the fact that Lilith could make her mind go blank, in fact not once in the entire process of their fight did Lilith think, she just acted.

David could not begin to imagine what kind of training she would have had to go through to achieve that state of mind, it was equal parts awe inspiring and horror inducing. But with this ability of her's, it became impossible for David to use or rely on his ability to sense when any attack was coming his way. So all he could do was fight her, and to be honest, David had no idea how to fight a person one on one.

While he has had prior training In self defense, he knew nothing about how to move, press his attack, Defend properly, or how not to make unnecessary movements in a fight. Lilith proceeded to beat those fundamentals into his head, and David was proud to say he had learnt a lot in two days. But have still couldn't lay a single scratch on Lilith.

But they could not train forever, there was practically no way forward or back. Behind them was an army of evolved monsters probably waiting for them to come out of the police station so that they can be dinner, or breakfast. And then ahead of them we're a series of trials that so far they have to pass to get something, but not a definite way out. In the end they were sill stuck here, the only choice left was to move forward.

"Minerva is there anything we need to know about defeating a death knight, much less five of them?" David asked in contemplation.

Minerva looked up at David from the supplies she was arranging and rubbed the back if head a little as if trying to remember something.

"I'm not to familiar with death knights, however it should be possible to kill them by extinguishing their heart flame. And I don't really know what a heart flame is, or how to extinguish it. When the time comes, we will get counting on you to find out."

David felt a chill go down his spine by what she had just insinuated, he had told them he was able to read that the broken minds of the undead within the tunnel, but he had not told them how horrifying an experience it was. The first night after her had heard them, he was nit able to sleep, every time he closed his eyes, they were there, right behind him dark confines of his closed eye lids.

Reading their minds was not something David wanted to do, thankfully he was able to train his telepathy to reduce it's already ridiculous range to just about five meters around him. It was weird for David though, OK cause most telepaths train to increase the range of their ability, he was the only one training to reduce it.

David was terrified of the prospect of going through their minds again, the first time was not just loud and disorienting with the sheer amount of voices in his head, but it was also bone chilling from the degree of madness and anguish he could feel. It was a cursed existence, a bitter one. And David did not want experience that horror with them again.

For Today's fights David was going fully geared. There was no substantial armor for any of them, but they had enough weapons and ammo to bring a building down. And today of all days, David was going to use his shot gun. The very weapon he used to perform his first kill on Pangea. It was a reunion of lost souls.

He was also taking his hover bike, the tunnel was wide enough, and stealth was useless against the undead. They sensed things a little bit differently from humans. Veni, Vidi and Vici were all ready for a fight, and so was Minerva and Lilith. It was with an unspoken agreement, that they all made their way into the fifth tunnel, marching towards the death knights.

David was their vanguard, his ability to sense any incoming danger made it possible that the most effective position for him, was at the front, right where the danger was expected to come from. Much to his chagrin and discomfort, this was something David could not really avoid. The tunnel was much like the rest of the other tunnels, drab, dark, and earth. Their entire journey through it, could be considered rather boring, but still long enough that their nerves were stretched taut with worry.

Eventually the tunnel came to an end, and standing right in front of them were the death knights, all five if them. In a place like Pangea, medieval armor with it's bulky characteristics could only be found in a museum or as the private collection of some rich bastard. They were no longer practical in an era where a shirt as thin as silk could muster a defense five times stronger than a basic enchanted armor.

However the armor that the death knights had on was not old or obsolete. David would recognize that piece of tech any where you put him, even in his sleep. After all, it was something that his father also personally owned.

"Lilith that's an Artemis 264 Sky Dragon armor!" David muttered in shock.

"Yes David it is."

"Would it be wrong for me to say we're screwed!" David asked with his voice shaking a little.

"No David it wouldn't be wrong. Because you're right, we really, really are screwed."

THE NORTH EASTERN EDGE OF PANGEA

THE SPIRIT SEA/ THE SPIRIT EMPIRE OF RODINIA

YAGURA IMPERIAL ISLAND

TIAN XIAO IMPERIAL CITY

THE PALACE.

Kenai Khan Chen Kato was a busy man. A defeated man, but a busy man none the less. Previous mistakes and a lack of strength on his part had left his people vulnerable enough for the twelve cities to take advantage of them and exploit them for what they had. They were nothing more than slaves to their enemies right now, a life that had no choice but to follow if they wanted to survive.

But this was not going to the end of their story, his people are an ancient and proud race of warriors, they we're chosen by the heavens, blessed by the earth and loved by the sea. Defeat was impossible for them, and even now they were building their forces, amazing their armies for an invasion that was sure to leave a trail of death, fire and destruction over the entire surface of Pangea.

And all this would not have been possible of the apocalypse did not begin almost eight months ago. At first it was expected that they would suffer greatly due to the danger of being right in the middle of the sea, the creatures that were bound to come forth from it's embrace would have been terrifying and powerful enough to turn their civilization into ash and rubble, leaving them buried and forgotten under the sea for the centuries and millennia to come.

But their bloodline was powerful, and from within their populace, chosen sons and daughters of heaven began to develop mystical abilities that gave them domain over the seas and it's inhabitants, and Kenai was one of them.

He was emperor over this people, they lived and died by his words, and even with his mistakes they had chosen him for this position. And it was a position that was fought for with a lot of hard sacrifices, painful sacrifices. But with the advent of a new world, it was without a doubt that he knew, power, and domination was their destiny. Pangea in all it's glory would belong to them, and not just the sea, but his friends above, within the vastness of the stars, will make sure their destiny is fulfilled.

Kenai picked himself up from his desk as he went to the balcony of his office. He could see his imperial city basking in the splendor and glow of the setting sun to the west. That was where their destiny lied, because this here, this was where the sun rose, that alone was more than enough proof that they were destined for great things.

The light bounced and reflected of the golden and red timed roofs of his people's homes. Many of the buildings stretch forth and high into the sky, already gleaming with the lights of the night. The could hear their clamor, and their bustle, see them as they all rushed home after a day of hard work and struggle. They were tenacious this people of his, strong and incapable of laziness or giving up. He was really proud to be their leader.

But he could not hide the disgust on his face as he watched the joint forces of the twelve cities walk and meander around his capital like it was their backyard, he wanted to tear them all to pieces and introduce them to deepest caverns of despair. It was only a matter of time before.....

Kenai was interrupted by the sudden ringing in his head. It was a sound only he could hear. An encrypted communication chip that was implanted in his head, connected directly to the part of his brain responsible for thoughts and speech processing. Technology like this, is only used for spies to communicate, or mainly for those Virtual Reality entertainment merchandize.

"Salutations to you your majesty, how goes the governing of your people." A deep baritone of a voice resounded within his mind.

"Salutations to you too councilor, how are the stars above." He asked, with a tone so subservient it would make any one who heard him speak out loud wonder if he was an emperor or the pet of the mysterious voice in his head.

"Oh the stars have been just as they have always been. Burning, dull, and ready for harvesting. I have called to let you know that in three years once the barrier around your planet comes down, the Neonates will be deployed, and the planet shall be ours. However, I want to know, how are things on your side.?"

"We will be ready for deployment in a year by rough estimates. It could be less, but not more than a year." Kenai replied.

"It would be in your own interest that everything you do can be accounted for, and that no complications arise. The consequences of failing the confederacy is not one you or your people will survive. Am I clear!"

"Yes councilor."

"Good. Now as per your request I have expended a few resources to look for the woman you say was important to you. I found her."

Kenai felt his heart skip a beat. He wanted to hope, but he was afraid to. He just wanted what ever comes next to be good news, that was what he desperately needed right now.

"She was last seen at underground fighting pit somewhere to the south of Pangea, she was captive there along with her companion who I believe is s young man of about twenty two to twenty five, his age is nit clear at the moment. They were able to escape when some idiot thought it was wise to open a greater gate to the demon realm, I'm nit sure which realm exactly though.

She was last seen heading north and in the direction of the city of iron, so it is my deduction, that you would find her there, if she doesn't die on the way. Speed up the preparations, if it's possible, I want you ready for deployment in eight months. Have a good day your Majesty."

And then all was silent. But his heart was in turmoil. Finally, after all this years and has finally found her, his empress. He wanted nothing more than to hold her in his arms right now, but yet she was so far from him. But it was only a matter of time, before they found their way back into each other's arms. And when they finally did, they would burn all of Pangea to the ground in vengeance of their broken marriage.
