The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 59 - The Secret Of The Dragon (VII): Pain

Lilith held Minerva's catatonic body in her hands in shock, no one expected this sudden turn of events, and it had hit them really hard. Minerva has been attacked by a wraith, and even though her body seemed to be okay, her mind was broken and scattered to God knows where.

David could not feel anything. He was numb, empty, and he was thankful for it. To be honest it was as if he was not yet ready to accept the fact that his friend was lost forever, and it was his fault. After all, this plan was his, he had proposed it, and even though it had worked, Minerva who has been the one against it, had been forced to pay a price for its success.

David took a step back until his back was touching the tunnel wall, then he slid down scraping his back against the hard earth. Was he cursed, did he have to bring death and pain to the innocents that don't deserve it. Ahmed, Lilith's son Astaroth, the other fighters back at the arena, Minerva's father...….and now Minerva too.

Most of this situations had been rather unfortunate circ.u.mstances, things that happened due to the flow of fate and life. He had no power over them except for one true fact. He was present when all those deaths took place, and 99% of the time, he was the one doing the killing, or something trying to kill him, kills an Innocent bystander. Those deaths were all on him, and he might have done a good job so far of ignoring the massive amount of guilt he was carrying around, but not anymore. David had reached his breaking point.

His left eye pulsed as a blue metal flew from the cavern, and went straight into his eye. David thought his heart was in pain, he felt enc.u.mbered by the guilt and weight of all his mistakes.....they were nothing compared to the tortured he was forced to endure next.

His left eye began to burn as psychic hooks began to stretch from all over the dungeon, digging themselves into his brain and trying to pull out his consciousness. His body trembled as he bled from ever orifice in his body, blood dripping from his eyes, ears, nose mouth, and from his skin. Whatever it was that was happening to David, it was beyond what his physical body could handle.

The tattoo of the dragon in his eyes became more vivid, as it swam all over his eye ball, out onto and over every inch of his skin, slowly expanding until ever part of David's body was covered by the rather Vivid looking tattoo. The tattoo superimposed itself over David's body, almost as if he was wearing it like a coat, or he had been swallowed by a dragon. Then it began to sink into him, bringing about a whole new wave of agony that David could not handle.

He felt like molten fire and freezing water were poured directly into his veins. They coursed through his entire body, ripping his cells to shreds and burning his heart to a crisp before freezing the ashes to giant chunks of ice that pierced the inside of his c.h.e.s.t.

"Garrrrggggghhhhh!!" David screamed in agony, letting his tortured voice bounce around the tunnel, as Lilith tried to hold him up, worried for his well being.

The moment Lilith touched him however, a black dome appeared and repelled her touch, throwing her back to the other side of the tunnel and close to Minerva's body. Lilith involuntarily coughed up blood as that black dome had shaken the organs within her body, leaving her with some injuries.

David shouted again as he began to pull his clothes off, almost as if thousands of fire ants were all over his body, crawling on and beneath his skin.

He let out a shout as a massive crack was heard, the skin over his c.h.e.s.t pushed forward as the face of whiskered dragon pushed out of his skin, as if it was trying to come out of his body, but could not. Then the face pulled back, and appeared on his back, stretching his skin as it tried to claw its way out. It began to move all over David's body, searching for a way to escape from within the confines of this mortal shell. Then the dragon in his body went to his head.

All of his memories began to run through his mind, things from both lives that were the same, and things that were very different from the other. He saw his simple life back on earth, his big ambitions and wild dreams. His suffering country, his mother and his brother, his friends.

A life that was simple, too simple for a boy with that kind of ambition. Then he saw his life on Pangea, an extravagant and wild life, for a boy that lacked ambition. He just wanted to be left alone, yet his not so simple life, kept expecting things from him. He was to pay prices that he was not so willing to pay. Different people, in different worlds, but it was obvious that the other would have been more at home in the life of the his counterpart.

It was like the souls meant for the planet was switched right from the beginning. But the process of switching them back had messed up David bad enough, that both souls were now an uneven combination of a single entity. They were the same, yet they could not accept the other. It was to be a war of attrition until one finally devours the other, and one victor, one David emerges as the winner.

Thoughts, memories, comparisons, all of them ravaged his mind, and they brought pain with them, a massive amount of pain that David could not handle as he began to smash his head on the ground, again, and again, and again. At that point he would have done anything to make it stop, to stop this pressure from squeezing his mind into nothingness and jelly.

Lilith was horrified, and for this first time in a very long time, she was scared. She watched him hit his head on the ground, until the ground below him was covered with his blood. At the rate he was going, David was going to kill himself, before whatever it is that was rampaging in his body ran it's cause. If he doesn't stop, he would die.

Her heart skipped multiple beats at that thought. She looked down and saw Minerva's body, empty and devoid of anything that once made this shell her best friend and the Godmother of her late son. There was a hollowness within her, and deep seated ache that ate at her very soul. This apocalypse could have been avoided if she was maybe holed up safely in a cell in one of the cities. At least there would have been a chance for her child and friend to survive.

She felt cursed, that everything she's come to love was always taken away from her, and now the one person to have stirred her dead heart from the frozen grave she had placed it in, was about to kill himself from pain. She couldn't let that happen, not at all. She couldn't let him die, not without telling him how she really felt, not without telling him, that she loved him.

Lilith turned her entire body into her diamond form as she tried to break the transparent black barrier that separated her from David. She was not the only one as the three tortoises gave it their all, trying futilely to break through and get to their brother, owner and friend. But nothing they tried was working, nothing was working at all. Even Veni with her Ionite based abilities could not neutralize the barrier, it was as if the harder they hit the damn thing, the stronger it became.

Lilith could do nothing, as she fell to her knees, tears streaming down her eyes as she was forced to watch the young man she has come to love torture himself to death. She couldn't look away the entire time it was going on, she couldn't stop him. Somewhere at the back of her mind she made a resolution, if he survives, she would do anything in her power to stay by his side, she would love him with everything she was capable of. She made that prayer to which ever God or entity was listening at the moment. But she also made a promise, if David does not survive, then this dungeon would become both their tombs, along with Minerva's. She would die here with them.

Then David stopped hitting his head on the ground as he suddenly arched his body in pain, then he started trashing around, like an earthworm that's had salt thrown on its body. He flopped about, groaning and screaming unable to control or wrest any sort of power over his body.

Then suddenly a suction force began to come from his c.h.e.s.t, it pulled at Minerva's weak body, and before Lilith could do anything, Minerva's body flew into David's c.h.e.s.t and disappeared. Next it was the three tortoises who were dragged in, completely powerless from the sudden force that was pulling at them. Lilith knew she was next, and as the force pulled her she let herself go, embracing what ever comes next. Once Lilith disappeared, David's body began to distort like the image on a TV screen. It looked like his body was caving into itself, before suddenly he also disappeared, leaving the dungeon empty, devoid of their presence with only their forgotten supplies as proof that people had been here.
