The Modern Man Who Never Played Video Games Is Now An Adventurer!

Chapter 26 - Meeting The Feido Adventurer Guild's Guildmaster

After a night of... fun, we ended up waking up later than we had previously planned. Since we assumed that we had already missed out on the morning rush for quests, we took our time getting ready. It was almost noon when we left the inn to find somewhere to eat lunch.

Walking down the streets, we saw many people going about their daily business. Most shops were scattered throughout the entire city, instead of being split up into districts. The only district that could be considered as one was the food district. We passed a few blacksmiths, clothes shops, and other shops on our way to the food district.

Once we were there, we decided to just grab something from a street stall. We were sure entering an establishment would end up with us being even later than we wanted to be to get to the adventurers guild. We found a food stall that was selling bread in slices that smelled suspiciously close to French-toast from Earth. I immediately decided to buy some and was left with no regrets. It was great! I made a mental note to come back and buy more before we left Feido.

Once we had eaten our fill, we moved on from the food district and headed for the adventurers guild. It took us almost a full hour to reach the guild. We were surprised by the distance we needed to walk, but when I thought about it, it made sense. This was a large city.

We entered the guild and found a very spacious main hall with multiple counters spread across the opposite wall. There were multiple counters for quests and rewards. Since this was a much larger guild, theyhad more adventurers showing up. The wall to the left of the entrance was dedicated to quest boards. There were a few boards for every rank, making it easier for people to get a quest without too much hassle. On our left was the required bar for all the rowdy adventurers who wanted to party after a quest.

A few people were still milling about, looking at the quests or returning their completed quests for rewards. We walked over to the counter with a sign above it that said, "Help Counter".

The receptionist looked up from a book he was reading at our approach and gave us a smile. "How can I help you today?"

"We just arrived in Feido recently, after traveling from the town of Desil." I started explaining to the receptionist. "I was told by Guildmaster Derek Goram, that I should request to see the Guildmaster when I arrived here."

The receptionist squinted his eyes, clearly suspicious of my request. "Can you tell me your name?" He asked, probably so he could check with the Guildmaster to see if I was being serious.

"Of course. My name is Lucifer Arnova. Rank E adventurer." I said smiling, hoping to make myself seem less suspicious.

"Please wait one moment. I'll go verify if you have permission to meet with the Guildmaster." The receptionist put down his book and stood up. Turning his back on us, he moved behind the other counters before leaving through a door that probably led to the offices.

I leaned on the counter as we awkwardly waited. Bella was staring at me with a peculiar expression on her face. "Is there something weird on my face?" I asked her after a moment.

"N- No." She stuttered for a moment. "It's just that most people wouldn't be able to request to see the Guildmaster so casually. Every Guildmaster I required to have achieved rank S and have an alias. That means they're the cream of the crop among all adventurers. Somehow, seeing you ask so casually made you look really cool." She said, causing my face to turn slightly red from embarrassment.

I had no idea that Guildmasters were that amazing. Looking back at how I had asked for the Guildmaster so casually and all made me feel like a dolt. Yet somehow, Bella thought I had looked cool. Well, we're a couple anyway. If I looked cool to her while doing that, then that's good enoguh for me!

Just as the redness left my face, the receptionist came back and said, "Sorry to make you wait. The Guildmaster has requested that you come with me to his office. The lady behind you can come as well."

With those words said, the receptionist led Bella and me to a room at the far end of the third floor of the guild. It took almost three minutes of walking to get there. That's how large the building was.

At the door, the receptionist stopped and knocked twice. A moment later, a deep voice from in the room said, "Send them in."

Bella gave me a look indicating I should go ahead. I opened the door and walked in, Bella right behind me. I didn't know what to do or say, so I just stood awkwardly in front of the desk as the door behind us was closed gently.

The moment the door had closed, the Guildmaster stood up from his chair to greet us. He was a giant. He must have been over two meters tall by at least thirty centimeters. On Earth, his height would have placed him in the NBA, but his build was closer to someone from the NFL.

It took some effort for me to look him in the face. I was sure that I would have neck pains if I had to talk to him like this for more than a few moments. A massive scar ran from slightly above his forehead directly over his left eye and stopped just above his neck. He had light stubble covering his chin and a thick moustache covering his lips.

He stretched out a hand and lightly slapped me once on the shoulder. After a moment he sat back in his seat and smiled at Bella and me to let us know he wasn't as serious as his expressions seemed to let on.

We were still getting over how tall he was when he said, "I'm Guildmaster Brandon 'Frozenheart' Milligan. Goram told all of us Guildmasters to look out for you. Said you would one day shake the world, and that only we should be allowed to see your Status Card within the guilds."

The Guildmaster stopped for a moment and looked me directly in the eyes. "I don't know about you being able to shake the world, but you must have one extraordinary skill for Goram to say something like that. Would you allow me to see your Status Card?"
