The Princess And The Demon

Chapter 120 - One heart

The fire arrows and the ice spears hit the now exposed castle directly, it was even more breathtaking with the barrier gone, it had golden pillars and frames and cristal walls, but what caused the warriors breath to be caught on their throats wasn't the beauty of the architecture, but rather the fact that this castle didn't have any gate nor windows, it was entirely closed like a tomb...

"Are these surprises ever going to stop?" Andrea growled in frustration as she watched the walls regenerating themselves after each attack, things were only getting harder and harder while their army was growing weaker, they lost most of their soldiers while the rest were near their limit, they have been fighting non stop with barely any chance to rest or even eat, she wondered for how long they can still stand their grounds and pull up a fight before their already bad condition deteriorate even more...

"Your Grace" She called out for Henry who was probably thinking the same thing, he looked the poorest among them all, she weightof responsibility finally getting at him especially with the disappearance of the ice queen, he tried to put on a strong facade but everyone knew how bad he was feeling, not knowing whethere she was dead or barely alive...

"There is only one thing left to do, a direct attack" Henry answered, his voice not quivering, it was obvious that the soldiers were reaching their limits, so was he, and so were his tactics, so he decided to put all the strength they had left into one last direct attack, and hang it all on this attack, weather they win it all, or lose it all...

"And how are we going to do that exactly?" Andrea asked a little bit irritated, she was feeling her hunger growing stronger, the hungrier demons get the scarier and angrier they become, it wasn't only her though, it was almost everyone, the ice demons were in the worst state with their queen's unknown state, Henry knew he had no more time, if he didn't act fast, hunger will take over the demons, and they obviously don't have to go too far to find a meal with the human soldiers here including himself, every minute of delay was a minute closer for their self destruction...

"How many crossbows we have left?" Henry asked, thinking about the next move that sounded no less than insane.

"Thirty nine" A demon answered after a quick confirmation through the mind link, Henry nodded with a frown, the fire did really cost them so much

"A human archer, an ice demon and a shadow demon will stay with each crossbow, they will all attack a single spot of the wall using ice spears" Ice was the element that helped them destry the barrier, Henry thought, Why not take their chances with it again? "Make every strike counts, make it fast, and make it precise, because the rest of the army would be only few feet away" Everyone gasped in disbelief, this was suicidal, he wasasking them to stand in a range of death?

"Your job is to create an entry point for us by weakening the walls defenses, the human archers, you on the other hand will shoot fire arrows randomly around the selected spot, Randomly, but not too random"

Great, more puzzles, Henry knew that not many understood what he wanted from them, usually, a leader or king, and in his case both, wouldn't bother explaining every single detail of his plan to his followers and instead expect their immediate obedience, but he knew the soldiers was standing on a thin line right now, two of the leaders were already gone with only him, the human, left to lead what was left of the army, they were drained, and their trust in each other was wearing even thinner, the demons were slowly being controlled by their hunger and the humans weren't blind not to notice, keeping this minimum amount of trust between them was crucial and the best way to do so was simply communication. ..

"we first attacked the barrier with fire and ice arrows but it didn't work, No one wondered why?!" Henry asked, the army already gathering around him, " The barrier was able to block singular attacks even when they were strong , but when a massive attack crept on it, even when not being that strong it worked, i can only think that it was able to regenerate the cracks done separately... "

"Isn't it what we are going to do now by attacking this way?" It was Andrea who asked and everyone else agreed

"Well, we don't have anyone who can unleash a wide attack like the previous one, and we are not going to waste time either by attacking separately, Rather we will do something in between" Everyone looked at the human king with obvious interest, waiting for him to explain further...

"We made it this far" Henry said after he was done explaining the plan, looking everyone in the eye, "Some came here for their freedom, Some for life, Some for safety, Some for hope, we fought side by side, died side by side, and survived side by side, i'am sure if our ancestors saw us now they would be so disappointed, after all, we broke a pact of mutual hate and animosity that lasted for thousands of years, fed by lies, but now we stand together, only a step away from victory, from ending a dark era and writing a new one, a better one, with our own hands, and for that, i ask you all my friends, the one i knew before and the ones i made during this journey yet still trust with my life, I ask you all to take this step with me, For today is not the day we are going to lose, Today is ours, and every other day that comes after it, is ours" Henry finished with a loud voice that didn't miss anyone's ears, everyone cheered for him, feeling some invisible threads tying all their hearts together into a single man's heart, the same man who is going to lead them to victory...
