The Resurrecting Overlord

A white light trailed behind Dong Xian as he walked away. It was so faint that somebody could only see it if they concentrated hard enough. Therefore, it was not surprising that no one noticed it. However, Dong Xian received a notice that popped up from the system. [A soul filled with manuals is behind you.] Dong Xian was filled with happiness. He had deduced that the system would also accept souls filled with manuals. Otherwise, why did it notify him? How lucky was he for Currencies to drop into his lap!

Dong Xian turned himself around and observed the surroundings carefully. He could not allow such a chance to slip from his grasp. Indeed, a white light could be seen clearly by him. He greedily grabbed onto the light tightly, afraid it might resist him. The white light did not resist, but instead pushed against his hand. Dong Xian could feel something trying to push his soul out of his body. The pressure was coming from the white light.

He could almost hear the white light say, "I will possess this body. Even though my former body was decent, it is nothing compared to this body!" Dong Xian felt surprise when he heard the voice. It was the woman he had killed earlier. Who knew that she would be so cunning, dying to him in an attempt to gain a Spirit Stage body! However, she should have been prepared to be disappointed. Dong Xian's face had a smirk on it.

As Dong Xian grabbed onto the spirit and started to squeeze, the spirit was trying to escape hurriedly. She had realised her mistake after trying to possess him numerous times. There was simply no chance she had of possessing him. She should have seen it when he could see her and even hold her. Even a Sprit Stage cultivator could not achieve a feat like that! As Dong Xian squeezed tighter, the whole world started to disappear in her senses. Her last thoughts were, "I...regret...everything."

Dong Xian could not hear her thoughts. There was only a sound like a balloon popping. The soul he had grabbed tightly had popped! A system notice showed up. [Manuals detected. (Show more) Choose your option wisely.] [Consume/Appraisal] Dong Xian read the notice and was moved by the system. They even included a consume option! That way, he could get some good techniques out of the soul.

He decided to check out the content of the manuals by pressing the "Show More" button in the notice. Immediately, a variety of manuals popped up. The contents stated were [Shadowy Images Manual, Soul Transfer Manual, Heaven Steps Manual] Dong Xian's eyes lit up when he saw the manuals included. The Soul Transfer Manual was very interesting to him. The other manuals were also quite impressive. He had seen their effects for himself, so he was quite satisfied with the manuals he got from the soul.

The thing was, these manuals should sell for a lot of Currencies. Dong Xian was internally conflicted. The items the system provided in both shops was literally out of this world. The manuals were useful to him still. Should he take a risk and get the items provided by the system. Eventually, he decided against converting the manuals to Currencies. He pressed the "Consume" button. Just like before, he felt an endless wave of knowledge surging into his mind. He felt excruciating pain as the knowledge was from 3 manuals, not to mention that the woman had mastery of all of them.

After suffering for a short time, he recovered from the pain and snapped out of a daze. When he did so, he noticed the numerous people walking past him. "Such a young age and already hooked on drugs. Don't learn from him!" A middle aged woman remarked to her son as she took a glance at Dong Xian. Everyone was looking at him with disdain as he turned his head around. He was confused, so he asked an old man passing by about what had happened. The old man only ignored him and hobbled on his way.

He continued this method of questioning until somebody replied to him. A talkative young man spoke, "You were grasping at nothing, then suddenly smiled like a devil from hell, before snapping out of it. You really sent chills down my spine man. What were you taking for you to behave like this? Even the hardest alcohol I know would not compel someone to do this!" Dong Xian felt aggrieved. It seemed like he should find someplace discreet next time to not lower his reputation now.
