The Villainous Emperor Is My Pet?

Chapter 32 - Distracted me with a kiss

[Flashback]

He studied Savina's face. She looked like she was sleeping.

Although he told her to die, the silence that followed after her death pricked him.

As grief came to him like an old friend whom he rarely missed, Dante didn't know what to do.

Feeling sadness meant he cared for her. It bothered him deeply.

He didn't believe in love. It was a luxury that he could enjoy after he had received freedom; however, he was stuck inside a book for ages.

The person who sent him to this place was the woman he had shared a bed with.

That woman had betrayed him.

Not only him.

Dante understood humans and he also understood himself. He wasn't going to be prejudiced against another woman because he was betrayed once. The reason he felt sorry for Savina was that she broke his first curse and made him realize that he was stuck here.

But he couldn't give anything in return.

Savina missed her home and her family. Even if she didn't say it to him, he could tell whenever she would talk about her past in random moments.

'I am the most gorgeous one in my generation.'

'Of course, my father is the most handsome man. He is a better person than you. Even if I turn fifty, he would always treat me like his favourite child.'

'My mother is stern because my father is easy going, but she also admits that she gave birth to a perfect daughter… who is lazy sometimes.'

'I don't have flaws except for one: men are blinded by my glamour.'

Dante sighed, exasperated by the memories. Even dying wasn't as hard as listening to her extreme self-praise. How did her family cope with her?

Maybe they got used to it as he did.

He was curious about her appearance. If she was so beautiful, how did the goddesses let her live so far? Did the gods become silent in the human world?

From the way she spoke, he could tell that the world had changed.

Dante touched his lips. The sensation of her lips lingered there like faint magic that wouldn't dissipate. Was d.e.s.i.r.e coming back to him? He was sure that he didn't love her. Gratitude wasn't the same as love. As for d.e.s.i.r.e, he would never be ruled by passion.

He wasn't the type of man who would lose to emotions.

And yet, he didn't like this silence after her death. Her soul still lingered in this world before it would be gone. Since she failed, there was a high chance that her soul energy would return to nature.

If a woman like this died, the world might be a better place since her parlance about her beauty would stop.

But he wasn't a saint.

Dante carried her in his arms. Her body was too light, sending waves of guilt and resentment in his heart. He clenched his teeth and walked out of the palace while ignoring everyone.

He made his way straight to the garden. The deity didn't hide his presence.

"Oh, you are here." The deity, who was a rabbit, peered at the woman in Dante's arms. "I wonder what to do with her soul. She did finish her main mission, but she couldn't give you a happy ending. It was better if she would choose to go back home when she received the chance."

Savina had a chance to bring another transmigrator and leave this world, but she chose to stay.

"Send her back to her body," Dante spoke in a dangerous tone.

"Her body is dead in the human world," The Deity told him calmly. "It had been five minutes already."

"You can bring her back to life." Dante narrowed his eyes. "She is still in the book."

"I can bring her back one more time," The deity confirmed. "But why should I do it?"

Savina grabbed her hair and pinched her lips together into a thin line. "Damn it! I got distracted."

Why was she so keen about dying this time? Dante rolled his eyes. They were already headed toward the North Kingdom. It seemed that she had another realization.

He didn't bother to ask what she was thinking about because he was sure that she would be telling him anyway.

This woman could barely keep any secret in her stomach.

"You!" Savina pointed at him. "You distracted me with a kiss!"

Did he? Dante smirked at her. "I enjoyed it."

"Of course, you enjoyed it. Those were my lips." She fisted her hands. "You planned everything, Emperor. You were already prepared to go to the North Kingdom."

"I don't like wasting time." He looked out of the carriage window. "The weather is nice."

It was tiresome to hear her jargon, but he would listen to her anyway. What were her limits when it came to narcissism?

A kiss to shut her up was not his original move. She used that tactic on him in her third life in the book. However, he hadn't expected her to kiss him back suddenly. Why was he surprised anyway? She was the kind of woman who would touch his manhood right before she died.

Perhaps, it was because his feelings were returning to his body; the kiss had him wanting more. It had been a while since he had been with a woman.

He never slept with Aloisia when she was married to him.

In any case, having d.e.s.i.r.e was no big deal. Even if he wanted to kiss her more, he knew that he didn't want to be with her.

He needed her to put an end to the second curse.

"I don't want to go," Savina w.h.i.n.ed. "Emperor, leave me behind."

"No." He closed his eyes. As much as he knew her, he could predict what she would do. The first and second times were quick, and the third time was unbearably long. Did he have any strength to deal with her for the fourth time? Even if he was exhausted already, he needed to go through this.

"If you don't want to go, then we can go to the cemetery and try to raise an army of undead."

As he had expected, she became silent.

She hadn't guessed that he already knew who she was. Her name was deeply inscribed in his mind since she kept telling him that her name was Savina after she was found out in her third life in this book.

Savina Cox.

And she would tell him jokingly back then, 'Savina, the Red, and I am also the wolf.'

The corner of his lips crooked up when he recalled how she used to laugh and pretend to be a wolf who would eat him someday.

"I don't look like how I used to," She muttered. "I am afraid that Kaige will think that I am someone else."

"Don't worry about that." Dante glanced at her. Her face was slightly pale and she didn't have much flesh on her body; even if it wasn't her real body, it bothered him. "You should relax and concentrate on living a good life."

The least he can do for breaking his first curse was giving her a good life while she was here.

This book was a trap from the beginning. Giving happy endings to other main characters might have been easier, but it was impossible for him to get a happy ending since he had three curses. How could he receive a happy ending when his happy ending didn't lie in this book?

The deity expected that true love would break his curse, but she broke it by angering him so much that he felt like he would explode.

Feeling an extreme emotion broke the first curse.

The deity was also perplexed by this woman. She always took the bull by its horns and twisted all the outcomes.

For Dante, true love was a joke.

"It's easy for you to say." Savina sighed. "But it is not easy for me."

He couldn't tell her that he would protect her.

Dante knew that the deity wouldn't make things easy for him, but the deity was also tired of living in this book.

As a keeper of the book, the deity couldn't help Dante. That's why he had to make a wager with deity.

If Savina failed, he would become a permanent character of the book -- cursed to repeat the story each time someone read the book. There would be no salvation for him.

So, he would help her succeed and return to her world. Only she could bring him freedom.
