The Walking Dead's Gamer

Chapter 2 - The Hospital (1)

Looking around the area I deduced that I was a patient and in some sort of room, which appeared to be a single thankfully.

I glanced back to the locked door and decided to steer clear of it for the time being and instead opt to search this room for anything that may be useful.

Ding!*

For evaluation your surroundings and coming to the most logical conclusion you've been awarded 1+ INT

It was then when I looked around the room properly and noticed a birthday cake right beside the bed in which I awoke upon.

I took note of the candles displaying the number 19. I couldn't quite recall my birthday for some reason which was very weird, all I had known about my age was that I was indeed 19 when I awoke. My mind pondered many scenarios, the main one being that mass increase in luck warping reality itself to display the cake and the shiny object sticking within it.

I walked up to the stand in which the cake was upon and grabbed the black handle of the shiny object firmly. I withdrew the knife slowly and inspected it with my watchful eyes. I cast a quick [Observe] on it for good measure.

[Observe]

Classic Serrated Bread Knife

Fresh, crunchy breads, cutting the birthday cake or puncturing a zombies skull! - The serrated edge of a Bread knife does it all.

I actually laughed slightly at that description. It seems as if this 'Gamer' ability has warped the world to the apocalypse in a way. Clearly this wasn't the typical 'Gamer' power, but a more adaptable one.

Keeping a tight grip of the knife I once again began to look around the room in which I was in. Thankfully I did manage to scrounge some supplies. My [Inventory] currently had 10 slots which seemed to be available to me as the rest were grayed out. At the top of the [Inventory] it informed me of a way to unlock more slots whether that be by a random fortune or simply using money, though with each slot that's bought the price increases 2.5 fold.

So far I had depicted that the [Inventory] has no concept of time as nothing seems to change within that storage as expected.

I had located a duffel bag near the edge of my once peaceful resting place and found some regular civilian clothes, A simple pair of blue jeans, a green short sleeved T-Shirt, black trainers and a denim jacket.

I had experimented whether I could store multiple things inside the duffel bag then store that in the inventory, but sadly it didn't work. Thus I had only 5 slots available. In the 1st slot lay the 3/4 of cake which was at my bed. In the 2nd were 3 bottles of water, I had found 2 bottles which were full whilst the another 2 around half full. To save space and not take up an extra slot I poured one half in the other and stacked it onto the current 2 in my [Inventory].

Yes, I could stack things. It reminded me of a Minecraft [Inventory] in all honestly. The 3rd slot had a med-kit with a variety of items. Apparently things that are already packaged and go together are fine to be placed in the [Inventory]. I had found those healing items pinned on a wall in case of emergency, which in this definitely was!

The 4th slot had 3 stacks of fruit bags. Nothing too big, only plastic sealers containing some dried fruit which I had found on some leftover trays in the room. It seemed like many people visited me recently...

The 5th and final slot held the empty duffel bag itself. I never know when I may need to take it out and fill it up to carry around with me.

I walked towards the locked door and with one final survey of the area and confirmation that there was no more use of me being here I gently unlocked it ensuring no sound was heard.

I got the door open after and immediately hunched over slightly, whilst walking slowly and slightly crouched down the flickering corridor. It was bright outside, which corresponded inside, but certain parts were slightly dark due to the lights being out. I was interrupted from my thoughts by the sweet sound of a notification.

Ding!*

You have gained the skill [Sneak] - Active - LVL 1

This skill makes your movement noise lessen whilst making you harder to notice.

+5% Increase in AGI

+5% STR Whilst performing an undetected hit

I dismissed the notification and continued down the halls when I suddenly heard a groan which i recognized immediately..

Noticing what it was I slowly crept around the corner and saw multiple walkers blocking me and the pathway.

I decided to go back and take a peak in each room I had passed. Nothing too much was found, unfortunately spare clothes seemed to be very sparse. I found 3 more bottles of water which I stacked to make 6 and some proper food thankfully though it did take up another slot in my [Inventory].

Now however, I'm back at the edge of the corridor peering around the corner where I'm witnessing multiple rotten corpses snapping their jaws over and over in the air. I could hear their teeth smashing against each other creating a chilling sound, fortunately I was unaffected.

I crouch lower and tap my knife on the floor slowly causing a low amount of noise to echo in the corridor. The sound bounced around but dulled nearly instantly. Thankfully one of the mobs did seem to hear it.

I see it turn around and it's lifeless orbs gaze into mine. It was only a second later when those orbs displayed something, pure a.d.u.l.terated hunger!

Ding!*

You have gained the skill [Danger Sense] - Passive - LVL 1

A natural survival instinct. It allows the user to sense when a bad thing may occur. The higher the skill, the earlier it can sense danger.

Ding!*

For using a well placed strategic method to attract a singular target from a group, INT was raised by 1.

My eyebrows raised slightly at that. So far I've barely trained and read books yet my stats are increasing at a fine rate for the first day, that only means they'll slow down quicker... It was during these thoughts that the walker proceeded to limp it's way over here. I heard another ding signifying my [Danger Sense] increasing to LVL 2. Due to my mind running through multiple thoughts I had not been paying rapt attention to the danger ahead.

I backed up slightly to the middle of the hallway, my knife drawn getting into a stance awaiting the walker to turn the corner to approach me.

I could hear the slight squeak of the floor around the corner from what I could only assume was blood which was previously decorating the decomposed mob. Finally it made it's way around the corner...

It slowly limped up to me and I felt elated. My first target, thankfully [Gamer's Mind] could keep my mind calm and collected otherwise a majority of emotions may be happening right now. My first real fight, a fight that could result in death even if it is unlikely, but one stupid move and I could be done for.

I quickly cast [Observe] upon the nearing zombie and saw it's stats.

Zombie LVL 7

HP - 500/700

It's resilience is double that of when it lived.

*Injured

It was a pretty high level, especially for a zombie in my opinion, and it's strength would probably be decent too judging from the description. Thankfully it's injured, and even if it only took off 200HP it's injury is related to it's leg decreasing it's speed and mobility. Once again i thought about the increase in LCK and wondered whether this was the effect of it.

It was finally in reach and I kicked his more flexible leg immediately. I heard a low crunch as soon as my foot slammed into kneecap. As the zombie toppled over, I bent my legs and thrust my arm forward. The knife positioned between my hands had already lodged itself at the front of it's skull...

I ignored the updates for now and slowly pulled my knife out from the penetrated skull and proceeded to wipe the blood off using the zombies uniform.

Wait. Uniform? That's when I realized the zombie in which I killed was wearing some sort of uniform. Granted it was in tatters and hard to make out, but It wasn't exactly a strange occurrence to wear a uniform in a hospital, not at all, but from the torn remains of the uniform it looked to be a type security get-up.

Ding!*

For your great detective work and rational thinking your WIS and INT is raised by 1.

Hmm. Neat. I mused.

Now knowing that the walker in which I killed was indeed some form of a security guard I got to searching for loot.

I felt something bulge around the waist level and would've blushed in embarrassment and shame if it weren't for the trusty skill I posses. Turns out It wasn't THAT kind of bulge thankfully, but in-fact a gun. A visible smirk made it's way to my face. That's not all I found though, he seemed to be carrying a combat knife as a secondary along with a torch.

Some very useful finds. I thanked the luck in which I stacked at the beginning for this lovely haul. I cast [Observe] on each item. The torch didn't give much info, just it being a standard torch with a tough exterior and slightly brighter lighting. The gun and knife however...

Taurus® Model 85 Ultra-Lite Double-Action Revolver

Conceals well and packs a punch.

.38 bullets - 30

30 bullets for it. That only made my smile ear splitting.

Boot Knife

Small, but deadly.

I looked at my current cake cutter knife and realized the durability had dropped significantly even with my careful handling of it.

I took the gun in my hand and without processing what I was doing took out the chamber. It came naturally to me for some reason, but I couldn't pinpoint why...

I stripped the deceased corpse of his holsters for both the knife and the gun and attached them onto myself. I loaded up the pistol to a full 6 in the chamber as fast as I could, leaving me with 6 in the gun and 24 outside. A new skill appeared right after.

Ding!*

For doing a certain act you have gained the skill [Fast-Hands] - Passive LVL 1

[Fast-Hands]

A skill that allows the user to use his hands for any purpose at a quicker pace.

2% Increase in hand movement.

I took the pistol and switched the safety on for the time being, shoving it in my newly acquired holster, I walked around the corner and saw the remaining enemies. I grabbed the kitchen knife by it's handle and flung it as hard as I could. It wouldn't of lasted much longer anyways, plus I had an upgrade. I watched the knife sore in the air before landing in a walkers shoulder.

The zombie lifelessly flinched back slightly, but it's gaze turned landing on me. The others in the corridor also heard this and looked in my direction before walking on over.

I smiled sheepishly at that, all I wanted was a new skill. My [Danger Sense] had increased once more due to the numerous amount of zombies coming my way, on the bright side a new skill was added.

Ding!*

From a significant act you have gained the skill [Throwing Mastery] - Passive - LVL 1

A skill that allows you to accurately throw and hit what you want.

5% Increase to all attack damage with throwing objects.

5% Increase in accuracy whilst throwing something.

My eyebrow rose at that It was a good skill after all, but I had no time to admire so i quickly dismissed it and took my new knife out along with my gun. With the sidearm in my right hand, i held it over my left for more balance and less recoil, whilst the knife was gripped in my left in case any got too close.

I walked slowly down with my gun aimed at their heads whilst the groans on the opposite side got closer. It's time for a battle!
